Anthropic launches a work-focused AI agent with 6,000 tool connections

The new Claude Duet app targets professionals and small businesses, offering automated task management and proactive recommendations rather than general personal assistance.

More than 6,000 connectors and plug-ins are now available for Anthropic’s latest launch, signaling a significant push into the crowded market of AI productivity tools. The company has introduced Claude Duet, an application designed specifically for professionals and small businesses looking to automate workflows. This new release positions Anthropic directly against a growing list of competitors, including Meta Muse, OpenAI Dots, Hark, Instinct, Grok Bot, and Fo, in a race to capture user attention in the rapidly evolving AI assistant space.

Anthropic is drawing a clear line between Duet and the many personal agents currently on the market. The company notes that the new tool is not built for handling casual errands or booking tickets, nor does it provide a live view of its browser activity. Instead, the focus is squarely on business efficiency. Duet is designed to build daily briefings, create custom dashboards, and suggest specific actions based on the data provided by the user. This distinction aims to appeal to users who need structured, professional-grade support rather than a general-purpose companion.

A key feature of the new agent is its ability to work in the background. Built on the Claude Opus 5.5 model, Duet can complete complex tasks within its own virtual machine while the user continues with their day. The agent operates independently and will only return to the user for approval when necessary. This background processing capability is part of a broader industry shift where the focus is moving from simple chatbots to autonomous agents that can execute multi-step workflows on behalf of their owners.

The competitive landscape is intensifying as major tech firms pivot toward business use cases. While Meta’s Muse is primarily a personal assistant, the company has also released a version tailored for small businesses with app integrations. Similarly, OpenAI’s Dots has a strong business orientation, featuring deep integration with professional tools. Anthropic’s entry into this specific niche highlights how the market is fragmenting, with different companies targeting distinct user needs rather than trying to be the single solution for everyone.

Beyond basic task management, Duet offers proactive monitoring of ongoing projects. The system delivers recommendations as it observes work in progress, aiming to keep users ahead of potential bottlenecks. For financial transactions, the agent can make online purchases on the user's behalf using Stripe’s Link digital wallet or Shopify’s Shop Pay. However, Anthropic has established clear boundaries to maintain trust; sensitive steps like payments always require explicit user approval, and the agent will not trade securities or move money between different accounts.

Security and privacy are central to the new release. Anthropic has introduced a new classifier that scans every message to prevent sensitive information from leaking out. By default, the agent is configured to decline requests that ask for credit card numbers or government identification numbers. This proactive approach to data handling reflects the industry's growing emphasis on building trust with users who are increasingly comfortable delegating significant tasks to AI systems.

Claude Duet is currently available as an app for both iOS and Android devices. It is also accessible via the web through Claude.ai, specifically for Pro and Max customers. The launch is in a research preview phase, meaning it is not yet widely open to the public. Users interested in trying the new agent must join a waitlist to gain access. As the AI sector continues to mature, this release marks another step toward specialized, business-oriented tools that promise to save time and streamline operations for professional users.
